Dudley AS Waters at Blackrock, Bewdley


The Dudley AS waters at Blackrock offer top quality middle Severn fishing that is noted for its bags of barbel and chub in the summer and outstanding roach fishing in the winter. The river here runs through some of the most scenic areas of the Worcestershire countryside. Gravel and boulder-strewn runs and shallows, coupled with smooth glides and deep gullies are home to barbel to 15lb, chub to 6lb, bream to 10lb and roach to 3lb.There are also nice dace and some very big perch to be caught. With pike running in the 10lb to 25lb bracket, predator anglers are also catered for with both quantity and quality.


In the summer, anglers target the venue’s prolific barbel shoals and feeder fishing hemp and casters or pellet can take nets to 100lb of fish in the 4lb to 7lb stamp. Strong tackle, using heavy feeder rods with 6lb to 10lb main lines and 4lb to 6lb hook lengths are the norm, with strong forged hooks required. Meat and corn also score in conjunction with hemp and float fishing these larger hook baits, with heavy wagglers and Avon type floats, dragging line along the river bed also take excellent catches each summer.


The winter sees a change to the rivers target fish as this stretch has some wonderful roach fishing. A heavy stick float approach to deal with the venue’s currents can see quality redfins falling to bronze and red maggots. On other days the caster or hemp and tare will do the job. During these winter session’s good size chub can also show up to test your skill and tackle! Floats of 5BB to 7BB shotted with No4s or No6s are about the range needed.
